The House
LA AQUILERIA The Eyrie
This new but traditionally built little house is in the oldest part of town; la villa . An elegant cool, white house with large windows to frame the magnificent views, perched high above the town. Sitting just below the lofty 18th. century church and the 12th. century Moorish castle. An ideal lovers’ retreat. Relax with a glass of the local wine on the roof terrace, as you watch the sun setting over the stunning Andalusian mountains or amble to the nearby shops, restaurants and bars down narrow cobbled lanes.
The Town
Olvera
A beautiful white village or “ Pueblo Blanco” just north of Ronda and surrounded by national parks. Olvera is about one and a half hours from Seville, Malaga and Jerez airports.
There has been a human settlement on the site for at least 12,000 years. Over the centuries the region has been controlled by Romans, Visigoths and Berbers, known as moors, Falling to the Christian Alphonso XI in 1327. Olvera later fell into the hands of the Dukes of Osuna. The town’s most famous son is probably Nicolas de Ribera. Born here in 1487, he was a leader in Spain’s conquest of Peru.
